Teaching for week of July 28th

The Training Room has a real good work-out for those who wish to be Champions...

What do you think of E.M. Bounds commentary of a Prayer Champion giving their all to prayer and how does it line up with how we do prayer in the church today?

What of the biblical teaching Prayers the Great Ones Prayed:
Prayer of Jabez 1Chr 4:10
Solomon's dedication of the temple 2Chr 6 => God's Answer 2Chr 7:1,14
Jehoshaphat Prays for victory 2Chr 20
Job's Turning Point Job 42:1-6, and Victory Job 42:10
Hannah's Prevailing, Fasting, Weeping Surrender to God 1 Sam 1:1-28

Here is my take...

North American Christian's should stop worrying about prayer in public schools , court houses , so on and start worrying about pray actually happening in our churches, homes and "personal prayer closets"...the problem isn't with the world not praying enough, the problem is God's people are not praying enough. .

The Bible says that Jesus is our High Priest and that He intercedes before the Father day and night. The Bible also says we are called to a Holy, Royal Priesthood and that we are Kingdoom of Priests. What was the job of the priest in the old testament ...to intercede for the people, to offer sacrifce for the people and to stand before God on behalf of the people.

What do you pray for, who do you pray for? and are you standing before the Lord for others as you are called to do as a memeber of the Kingdom of Priests!

Did you know that the avg. North Americian watches 50 hours of TV a week, let alone surfing the net, yes that is right 50 hours!!!

Can you imagine if all the "Christians" humbled themselves and cried out to God in prayer.
I challange you join me and take 10% of your next week and pray. There are 168 hours in a week, so that is 17 hours to give the Lord His 10%...shut of the TV and pray, shut down the computer and pray, say no to golf and pray...pray, pray pray...your nation depends on it, your family depends on it and God is calling us to it-
In His Grace and Peace, Ian

Vision, I pray and hope to be joined in prayer, that vision would be clear. That priorities would be adjusted and rearranged if and as necessary. That we would not waste our time and efforts on what may seem to be great, but rather what God would have us do. Vision that directs us to take one step, and fore go the other, vision that sees souls and touches needs even in the midst of accomplishment and activity.

On Jabez, his request is interesting. This is God's Word to we have every right to pray it and expect it. God is also not a respecter of persons so we are no different than Jabez.

What strikes me about 2 Chronicles 20 is the very end of the chapter. Jehoshaphat made an alliance with a person who was guilty of wickedness. Because of this the Lord destroyed what Jehoshaphat had made.

Interesting observation Steve… Jehoshaphat cried out to God and had the whole nation of Israel join in a fast, they combined that with prayer and praise…is there a pattern here?

All of the prayers that we have study to date have similarities, they all follow the A.C.T.S method, in other words they first acknowledge the greatness of God, they confess their sins, and they thank God for His mercy while taking time to remind themselves of His word and past miracles. And finally they were sincere and from the depths of their hearts.
I think we would be wise to use the same pattern…

Also, when we come into the throne room of the Most High God (which we are able to do only because of the shed blood of Christ) we must understand we are on holy ground and in the presence of the Creator of the universe…there is a reverence, a worship, an overwhelming sense of who He is and who we are. Like the women who lay at Jesus feet kissing and washing them with her tears, we are to fall at the feet of the King, She saw Jesus for who he really is and she saw herself for what she really was…she knew her sin and I have to ask myself, do I?.

I know that we are saved and I know that we are forgiven, but I also know how easy it is to have the attitude of Simon who was the host of that same party that I referenced above; how easy it is to think “well I’m not as bad as that guy over there”

I have to ask “have I come to the end of myself, am I dying to myself daily as the words says to do, and do I understand the Great and Awesome God that I serve?”. I have found the only way to do that is to seek Him in prayer, study His word and surrounding myself with people that are on fire to do the same.
May God bless you on your sojourn with Him and may the Lamb that was slain receive the reward of His sacrifice- Ian
